According to CBAT's Unconfirmed Observations Page
(http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/unconf/cbat_unconf.html),
a new nova has been reported in Sgr (mag 8.4C).
No prominent 2MASS/MSX soruce is present at this position
(180558.88 -271356.0).

Notably, ASAS-3 detected this outburst two days before,
probably on its rise:

  YYYYMMDD(UT) mag observer
  20080401.3421 <14.50V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))
  20080404.3581 <14.50V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))
  20080407.3516 <14.50V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))
  20080410.3504 <14.50V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))
  20080413.3429 <14.50V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))
  20080416.3048 11.671V (ASAS (Pojmanski, G. 2002, Acta Astron. 52,397))

The existence seems to be real. The amplitude would suggest a nova.
