IQ Eri: violent short-term variation
Nakajima-san and Kiyota-san obtained time-resolved photometry of
this object on two nights. As reported by Berto Monard, this object
showed strong variation up to 0.5 mag with a typical time-scale
less than an hour. A period analysis has yielded a broad signal
centered at 0.0425(2) d. Phase-averaged light curve at this period
shows a structured (doubly humped) profile. Although the spectrum
in quiescence does resemble that of a dwarf nova, the present
photometric signature is very unusual. The long duration (>17 d)
of the outburst and the similar complexity in the ASAS light curve
neither resemble those of a typical outburst of a dwarf nova.
The long duration of the outburst is unlike that of an intermediate
polar.
This outburst might represent a new class of CV outburst.
As well as intensive time-resolved photometry, spectroscopic
(and X-ray?) observation is requested.
