Subject: nearby SN Ia 2011by
According to CBET 2708, newly discovered SN 2011by in NGC 3972 has
been identified as of type Ia in its early phase. It was discovered
on Apr. 26.823 UT at mag about 14.2. The spectroscopy performed on
Apr. 27.5 UT shows that the object is very young (about 10 days before
maximum) SN Ia.
The host spiral galaxy NGC 3972 is very nearby one (likely same as the
Virgo cluster), so the maximum magnitude can reach mag about 12.0.
The continuous follow-up observation is encouraged.
