Asunto: Next HST observations: SDSS1538+5123 and DT Oct
Dear All,
this morning's HST observations of 1RXSJ105010.3-140431
went well, and we obtained a textbook ultraviolet spectrum
of a cool white dwarf, exactly the kind of data we
were hoping for. Thanks so much for your continued support,
I can't repeat often enough how vital your monitoring is to
the success of this project!
... and the next two targets are "locked" into the HST schedule,
* SDSS1538+5123: May 16, 2013 22:44:06 to May 17, 2013 02:14:05
which I described in one of my last mails: a new CV from SDSS, that
meanders up and down
<http://nesssi.cacr.caltech.edu/catalina/20010321/103211520534100553p.html>
by about a magnitude with no proper
outburst detected so far. Hopefully the HST observations will
shed some more light on the nature of this star.
* DT Oct: May 23, 2013 23:31:07 to May 24, 2013 02:05:03
a SU UMa dwarf nova with quite frequent outbursts (~40-60d).
The last outburst occurred around April 20th
<http://www.aavso.org/lcg/plot?auid=000-BFR-382&lastdays=50&obstotals=yes&ca
lendar=calendar&grid=on&visual=on&uband=on&bband=on&v=on&pointsize=1&width=8
00&height=450> . Given that
the HST observations will occur a bit more than a month
later, this promises to be a bit of a nail-biting experience...
Best wishes,
Boris
