Dear Friends,

A 13.15TG bright new variable star candidate, Vend558 was found two
8x30s images taken on 2.02 July 2014. within the framework of our
'Vendégcsillag-kereső' (Guest Star Hunter) programme.

The new variable star candidate, Vend558 was visible on all eight
co-added 3x30s images taken on 2.02 July 2014. Nothing was visible at
the given position on my reference images taken on 08.16 April and 12.15
April (limit magnitude 14.8 TG) using a Canon EOS 1000D DSLR camera with
300mm (zoom) focus telephoto lens.

Preliminary co-ordinates: 20:24:22.32 +31:09:22.9 (J2000.0) -- only 35'
from Nova Cygni 2014.

There is a ~16.5V mag quite red (J-K=1,752) star, UCAC4 606-108140
(USNOA2 1200-15054013) close to the given position. Probably this star
brightened. The preliminary photometry based on Tycho-2 mags, using the
transient search mode of VaST meausured probably the combined magnitude
of UCAC4 606-108140 and the ~15.45V bright UCAC4 606-108140 that lies
only 12" apart from this red star.

The new variable star candidate Vend558 is the either the brightening of
a new transient or more likely an LPV.

I hope we can confirm the discovery tonight. Further photometry and
precise astrometry is encouraged.

Clear skies,
