Dear colleagues,
I have just concluded the analysis of my 2017, Apr 27/28 unfiltered CCD photometry session of ASASSN-17fn. Observations were made at CBA Belgium Observatory, using a 0.40-m /f10.0 telescope and STT-3200ME CCD camera, under an initially clear sky, then becoming overcast. The resulting light curve clearly shows the presence of double-waved superhumps with an amplitude of 0.31 mag. A period analysis using the ANOVA, Lomb-Scargle and PDM methods (Peranso), yields a combined preliminary superhump period of 0.0609 +/- 0.0011d, hence establishing this object as a new WZ Sge-type dwarf nova. The object was at mag 15.3 (unfiltered) on Apr 27th.
I’m right now (Apr 28/29) running another unfiltered CCD photometry session on this target, which is expected to cover a time span of approx. 7 hours. An initial inspection of the light curve reveals a similar superhump pattern. Due to a holiday period, I will not be able to process my Apr 28/29 observations before early next week.
Observations will be sent to CBA and VSNET for further analysis.
Best regards
Tonny
