[vsnet-alert 21149] TCP J20100517+1303006: new WZ Sge type dwarf nova

I have just concluded the analysis of my 2017, Jun 22/23 V-filtered CCD photometry session of TCP J20100517+1303006. Observations were made at CBA Belgium Observatory,  using a 0.40-m f/10.0 telescope and STT-3200ME CCD camera. Sky conditions switched from clear to cloudy and back to clear again, resulting in a short observation window of 3.6 hours (with a 0.8 hours cloud gap). The resulting light curve shows the presence of early superhumps with double-wave modulations and with an amplitude of 0.13 mag, establishing this object as a new WZ Sge type dwarf nova. The object was at mag V=14.3 on June 22nd. 

 

I’m currently (Jun 23/24) running another CCD photometry session on this object, under clear skies. The light curve nicely confirms the early superhumps, but I will have to wait for the end of the session to accurately determine the period. A first, rough analysis tends to indicate that the object might have a quite unusual (for WZ Sge type stars) long superhump period, close to 0.079d.   

 

I will make a more detailed period and lightcurve analysis tomorrow. Meanwhile, I encourage observers at other locations to follow this target, to ensure we can accurately determine the superhump period evolution over the course of the outburst.


Observations will be sent to CBA and VSNET for further analysis.
