Recent observations
N Sgr05 20050705.74 8.6V
N Sgr05 20050705.74 8.1R
I notice a substantial difference in the reported coordinates from Mt John
Observatory as compared to the one I extracted.
Did I make another astrometric mistake? I'll definitely check that..

Subject: N Sgr 05 spectrum
Hola everyone -
Last night at July 5.085 UT, the magnitude of the new N Sgr 05 as measured
with a CCD and no filter was 7.15 (compared to the V=7.80 star HD 167441).
A spectrum taken at July 5.099 UT shows H_alpha to have a peak at about 2.1
times the brightness of the nearby continuum. Its FWHM is approximately
970 km/s, while the expansion velocity derived from the sharp P-Cyg line is
approximately 1300 km/s.
So it seems that the nova was caught early and is still brightening. More
observations urged !
All the best, Bill Liller
