[vsnet-alert 8590] FL TrA outburst

Timeseries photometry at CBA Pretoria over more than 2 hours on the outbursting FL TrA have not shown any modulation (yet).
Filtered CCD photometry conducted after the timeseries and centred on UT 2005 July 27.84 gave magnitudes 15.2Rc and 15.3V, showing this to be a blue object.

Astrometry (2000) vs UCAC2 gave the following position for FL TrA:
16 30 36.61 -61 50 11.1

Further observations are planned.
With other timezones hopefully joining in with timeseries photometry, we might be able to cover the transition phase towards superhump activity.

Good luck!

Dear readers,

I just return from my observatory where timeseries unfiltered photometry on
the outbursting FL TrA have been started.

I must congratulate Rod not just for his find (after scrutinizing the field
for many patient years), but also his keen astrometric judgment. The 'new'
object is indeed located a few arcsec NNE of the candidate indicated
(hesitantly by lack of another one visible near the position) in the CV
atlas. The exact position will be measured and reported later.

FL TrA is presently constant around 15.1CR but it is likely that after so
many years of inactivity this star will oblige with a modulating light curve
in the nights to come...

Quite interesting report! Would anyone take a CCD image to
confirm this outburst? If FL TrA is not the marked star in
the chart in Downes et al., the outburst amplitude may be
quite large.
