Hola Everyone -
Using Morel's stars with V = 12.13, 13.14 and 13.29, I found this:
Dec 24.0703 'JD728.5703 V = 13.02 +/- 0.05
Two comments: I've discovered that I rarely get better precision than this because I have a very humid climate, being only a few hundred yards from the Blue Pacific. And at the time of the above, there clearly was thin fog above.
Secondly, on my routine search fotos made with Tech Pan film, which has a pronounced peak in sensitivity at the wavlength of H-alpha, the nova has been appearing several tenths of a magnitude brighter than what we all have been getting using Morel stars for comparison. I've found this before with other novae, and Albert Jones and I have a series of papers in the IBVS demonstrating this. So it's no surprise -- and as is typical, the effect in NLMC05 is increasing as H-alpha strengthens.
For your amusement, and to convey Best Wishes for Xmas and the New Year, I attach a picture based on one sent to me by good friend and colleague Sumner Starrfield. (Thank you, Sumner!)
