Dear colleagues,

M. Fujii obtained a low-resolution optical spectrum of
the possible nova in Cyg on April 5 which was discovered
by M. Nishimura (IAUC 8697). The spectrum is available
at the following URL:
http://www1.harenet.ne.jp/~aikow/etc/nova_cyg_20060405.gif

A clear P Cyg profile was seen in the Halpha region. The
FWHM of the emission component was ~500 km/s, and the
bottom of the absorption component was by 15A bluer than
the emission peak. The other Balmer lines (Hbeta, Hgamma,
and Hdelta) were seen in pure absorption, possibly due to
the resolution of his spectrograph. The EW of the Na D
absorption was 3A. Based on these features, he commented
that this object seems to be a nova at the maximum
brightness.

Best regards,
Daisaku Nogami
