According to baavss-alert and CVNet, David Boyd also reported the
detection of humps.
Orbital period estimated by Boris Gaensicke is ~98min.
The single-peaked modulations seem to be superhumps and
SDSSp J082409.73+493124.4 is a SU UMa-type star.

I observed this SDSS CV, caught by Jeremy in outburst, for ~7hrs last night (JD161.287-161-579) and found strong single-humped periodic variation about a mean unfiltered mag of 15.6 with peak to peak amplitude 0.2 mag and period according to ANOVA of 0.0692+/-0.0020d (99.6+/-2.9min). It is listed in the SDSS I paper as mag 19.28(g*).
According to Boris Gaensicke: "we have quiescent photometry of this one - it shows a double-humped
light curve from which we deduce an orbital period ~98min."
Mike Simonsen has a chart and sequence, obtainable via the cvnet website, but note that it is drawn with S at the top not N as marked. More photometry is needed to better determine the period.
Regards,
David Boyd (BDG)
