VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary
*** Headlines ***
Nova in Sco 2005! ----- V1188 Sco
Rare outburst! ----- FL TrA
*** Last week news ***
(new targets)
V1188 Sco (RA = 17h44m21s.59, Dec = -34d16'35".7)
(= Nova Sco 2005 = ASAS174422-3416.5)
G. Pojmanski reported a detection of a probable nova on 26 July
by the ASAS-3 system. The object was fainter than 14mag at
Jul 23.287, and first detected V=9.109 at Jul 25.284
(vsnet-campaign-nova 1713). Following this alert, the object was
soon confirmed by many observers (vsnet-alert 8569, 8570, 8572,
vsnet-campaign-nova 1716, 1717, 1718, 1719, 1720, 1721, 1726, 1728).
M. Fujii took a spectrum of this object, in which the H-alpha line
is clearly seen in emission, consistent with the classical nova
classification (vsnet-campaign-nova 1722).
FL TrA (RA = 16h30m36s.61, Dec = -61d50'11".1)
R. Stubbings reported a very rare outburst of FL TrA on
July 27.469 at 15.0mag. He suspected that the position of the
outbursting object is slightly different from the catalogued
position (vsnet-campaign-dn 4485). B. Monard confirmed the
outburst, and reported the above position (vsnet-alert 8590).
There is no indication of the progenitor of FL TrA in catalogues
like USNO (A2.0/B1.0) and 2MASS, however, DSS POSS2/UKSTU IR shows
the object clearly (vsnet-alert 8591). He also reported the
detection of growing superhumps with a period of 0.060 d
(vsnet-alert 8593).
SDSS J124058.03-015919.2 (RA = 12h40m58s.03, Dec = -01d59'19".2)
According to MNRAS 361, 487, SDSS J124058.03-015919.2 is a new
AM CVn star with a 37-min orbital period. The spectrum resembles
those of quiescent AM CVn stars (GP Com, CP Eri etc.). The object
is normally at V=19.7, but its outbursts may be detected
(vsnet-campaign-dn 4484).
SDSS J225831.18-094931.7 (RA = 22h58m31s.18, Dec = -09d49'31".7)
H. Maehara reported an outburst of this object at V=12.59 at July
31.78473. SDSSJ225831.18-094931.7 is an SU UMa-type dwarf nova.
The most recent (reported) outburst occurred on May 31 (reported by
Maehara) at mag V=12.90 (vsnet-campaign-dn 4486).
V803 Cen (RA = 13h23m44s.5, Dec = -41d44'30".1)
V803 Cen continues to be bright. T. Kato commented that it may be
a possible superoutburst or an oscillating state (vsnet-campaign-dn
4487).
(old targets)
Swift J1753.5-0127 (RA = 17h53m28s.3, Dec = -01d27m06s)
M. Uemura reported preliminary period analysis of observations of
this new X-ray transient, Swift J1753.5-0127, taken by the Kyoto
team (observer: Imada & Kubota). During 15 - 23 July, the object
kept at almost constant magnitude. A linear fitting yielded a
slightly fading trend of 0.01 mag/day. While weather conditions
were not good in several nights, nightly averaged data apparently
show modulations with an amplitude of ~0.2mag and a period of about
4-5 days. No significant short-term (a few hours - days)
periodicity was detected (vsnet-campaign-xray 371).
AM Her (RA = 18h16m13s.4, Dec = +49d52'03".1)
AM Her is rapidly recovering from the long-lasting faint state
(vsnet-campaign-polar 44).
V378 Ser (RA = 17h49m24s.57, Dec = -12d59'59".2)
K. Nakajima reported V=14.92 at July 27.52512
(vsnet-campaign-nova 1724).
V5116 Sgr (RA = 18h17m50s.77, Dec = -30d26'31".2)
H. Maehara reported V=10.67 at July 27.64373, and K. Nakajima
reported V=10.71 at July 28.47322 (vsnet-campaign-nova 1725, 1726).
V1663 Aql (RA = 19h05m12s.50, Dec = +05d14'12".0)
The latest observation show V=14.78 at July 28.48481 (by
K. Nakajima; vsnet-campaign-nova 1714, 1725, 1726).
SN 2005cs (RA = 13h29m52s.85, Dec = +47d10'36".3)
Y. Sano reported 14.28CR mag at 22.491 July (vsnet-campaign-sn
1035). K. Nakajima reported 14.50C mag at 28.50609 July
(vsnet-campaign-nova 1726).
V1413 Aql (RA = 19h03m46s.84, Dec = +16d26'17".1)
T. Kato reported that recent observations show that the eclipse of
this symbiotic nova continues. The object is AS338, whose
eclipsing nature was revealed by Wakuda (vsnet-campaign-symbio 104,
105).
