VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary

*** Headlines ***

Hard X-ray outburst of a symbiotic star ----- RT Cru

*** Last week news ***

(new targets)
  RT Cru (RA = 12h34n53s.74, Dec = -64d33'56".0)

According to ATel #591, the hard X-ray source, IGR J12349-6434
(= SWIFT J1234.7-6433) has been detected by Swift XRT. This X-ray
source is identified with the symbiotic star RT Cru, as previously
suggested by N. Masetti et al. ATel # 528. This symbiotic X-ray
transient is now in outburst (vsnet-campaign-xray 381,
vsnet-campaign-symbio 106). In the ASAS-3 data base, the object is
gradually fading using the past few years (vsnet-campaign-xray 382).
  T. Kato commented that its short-term flickering, which has been
known in past observations, would be usual for a symbiotic system
with a white dwarf, but is uncommon in a hard X-ray transient
  (vsnet-campaign-xray 383, vsnet-campaign-symbio 108).

  AO Oct (RA = 21h04m59s.07, Dec = -75d21'22".5)

An SU UMa-type dwarf nova, AO Oct is probably in superoutburst
  (14.4mag on Aug. 25 by R. Stubbings) (vsnet-campaign-dn 4509).

  V1363 Cyg (RA = 20h06m11s.58, Dec = +33d42'37".7)

Based on recent observations reported to VSNET, T. Kato reported:
"The cataclysmic variable V1363 Cyg (type still undetermined) has
been atypically bright during the past one month. There is emerging
evidence that the object is still brightening. Please watch
carefully. The historical brightest record was 13.0 (p)."
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 4510, vsnet-campaign-nl 150).

  V725 Tau (RA = 05h38m54s.5720, Dec = +26d18'56".822)

According to ATel #595, M.H. Finger reported a renewed activity of
  a Be/X-ray pulsar, A 0535+26 (=V725 Tau). The object was detected
at 20 mCrab on August 26.7 by the PCA/RXTE (vsnet-campaign-xray
384). The object is rapidly brightening in X-rays
  (vsnet-campaign-xray 385).

  SN 2005dm

According to ATel #596, the Nearby Supernova Factory reported that
SN 2005dm is a SN 1991bg-like Type Ia, namely a dim and red SN
  (vsnet-campaign-sn 1040).

(old targets)
  New object near M27 (RA = 19h59m51s.29, Dec = +22d42'32".3)
  (= OT_J195951.3+224232)

    T. Vanmunster made a ~5 hour photometric run and obtained a light
curve showing modulations with amplitudes of 0.2-0.3 mag, and a
slowly fading trend (vsnet-campaign 1596). The modulations have a
period of 0.058 d. The light curve resembles that of SU UMa-type
superhumps rather than QPOs as inferred from the initial report.
The SU UMa-star nature of this object has been established
  (vsnet-campaign 1597, vsnet-campaign-dn 4508). W. Renz reported a
possible identification of its quiescent counterpart, and an
amplitude possibly over 10 mag. If it is the case, the outburst
amplitude would be very large, implying a WZ Sge-type system
  (vsnet-campaign 1595, vsnet-campaign-dn 4513). The object is fading
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 4511, vsnet-campaign 1594, vsnet-campaign-dn 4512).

  V5116 Sgr (RA = 18h17m50s.77, Dec = -30d26'31".2)

    K. Nakajima reported V=11.45 on Aug 26 (vsnet-campaign-nova 1743).

  V1663 Aql (RA = 19h05m12s.50, Dec = +05d14'12".0)

    K. Nakajima reported V=15.89 on Aug 26 (vsnet-campaign-nova 1742,
  1743).

  V1188 Sco (RA = 17h44m21s.59, Dec = -34d16'35".7)

    K. Nakajima reported V=12.37 on Aug 26 (vsnet-campaign-nova 1743).
