VSNET Weekly Campaign Summary

*** Headlines ***

A. Takao and K. Haseda discovered a nova! ----- Nova Sct 2005

*** Last week news ***

(new targets)
  Nova Sct 2005 (RA = 18h32m04s.75, Dec = -06d43'34".3)

    A. Takao found a possible nova in Scutum. The object was present
on CCD image(s) taken on Sep 30. The object was reported to be at
mag 10.3 (CCD unfiltered). An independent discovery of the object
at mag about 10.9 was made by K. Haseda on Sep 30. The presence of
the new object is confirmed on the most recent ASAS-3 image
  (vsnet-campaign-nova 1757). Multi-color observations by H. Maehara
and K. Nakajima showed that the nova is quite reddened
(vsnet-campaign-nova 1761). The nova is V=11.59 on Oct 2.420 as
  reported by K. Nakajima (vsnet-campaign-nova 1758, 1760, 1763).

  CG Dra (RA = 19h07m32s.79, Dec = +52d58'28".8)

An outburst (15.8C mag) was reported on Sep 25. The object was
intensively monitored in 1995, mainly by M. Iida with a CCD.
Frequent outbursts were recorded. The star underwent an outburst
(probably at least) once in month. Hoffmeister (discoverer)
classified the star as "CN Ori-type", the shortest interval of
  outbursts being 17 days (vsnet-campaign-dn 4543).

  BO Cet (RA = 02h06m39s.24, Dec = -02d03'42".8)

Based on the ASAS-3 light curve of BO Cet, T. Kato reported that
BO Cet seems to vary more strongly than has been thought. The
overall range of variability would better be 13.5-15.0V (in past,
known range = 14.4-15.4V). Although the type classification is
still unclear, the object may be a Z Cam-type dwarf nova rather than
a conventional NL-type CV. Further dense monitoring (than ASAS) is
  encouraged (vsnet-campaign 1621, vsnet-campaign-nl 173,
  vsnet-campaign-dn 4544).

  IM Eri (RA = 04h24m41s.06, Dec = -20d07'11".5)

The recent ASAS data suggest that IM Eri has shown possible
outbursts twice in this season. This object may be a Z Cam-type
dwarf nova with long standstills (vsnet-campaign 1622,
  vsnet-campaign-nl 174, vsnet-campaign-dn 4545).

  IP Peg (RA = 23h23m08s.7, Dec = +18d24'59".1)

    E. Muyllaert reported an outburst (13.7) on Sep 27
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 4546).

  V419 Lyr (RA = 19h10m14s.0, Dec = +29d06'15")

An outburst of the SU UMa-type dwarf nova V419 Lyr was reported on
Sep 26 by C. Gualdoni (15.51V). It was confirmed by D. Taylor with
15.7mag. The last superoutburst of V419 Lyr occurred in 2005
August. Although the current outburst looks like to be a normal
outburst (as judged from the interval), a relatively bright
magnitude would require a further watch (vsnet-campaign-dn 4547).

  DX And (RA = 23h29m46s.72, Dec = +43d45'04".2)

The object is in outburst. It showed a relatively rapid rise
  (vsnet-campaign-dn 4548).

  UZ Ser (RA = 18h11m24s.90, Dec = -14d55'33".9)

The object started an outburst from a standstill, as reported by
  D. Taylor and M. Linnolt on Sep 27 (vsnet-campaign-dn 4550). The
ASAS-3 data indicate that there was a small fading (V=14.2) before
the current outburst. Such a phenomenon is commonly seen in Z Cam
stars when standstills are over (vsnet-campaign-dn 4551).

(old targets)
  RZ Gru (RA = 22h47m12s.00, Dec = -42d44'38".5)

It is now below 14.0 according to the ASAS-3 database
  (vsnet-campaign 1623, vsnet-campaign-nl 175).

  V5116 Sgr (RA = 18h17m50s.77, Dec = -30d26'31".2)

The nova is Rc=11.01 on Sep 2 (K. Nakajima; vsnet-campaign-nova
  1763).

  V1663 Aql (RA = 19h05m12s.50, Dec = +05d14'12".0)

The nova is Rc=14.68 on Sep 2 (K. Nakajima; vsnet-campaign-nova
  1763).

  Var79 Peg (RA = 21h54m33s.66, Dec = +35d50'17".4)

Based on recent data, T. Kato reported that outbursts are very
frequent in this object (vsnet-campaign-dn 4549).
