As part of the AAVSO Fall Meeting this year (October 14th and 15th), the
AAVSO will be conducting a two-day Visual Observing Workshop.
The Friday workshop will be devoted to advanced techniques and topics for
visual observers. Among the speakers and topics scheduled are: The Eye As
Photometer by Michael Linnolt, Visual Observing of Faint Variables From the
Heart of England by Gary Poyner and Catch A Rising Star: CVs for Visual
Observers by Mike Simonsen. Charles Scovil will be giving a historical talk
on Clinton Ford.
The Saturday workshop will concentrate on topics for the new observer and
general astronomy public.
THIS SESSION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, FREE OF CHARGE!
We would like to use this workshop to encourage
new observers from astronomy clubs, organizations and local schools, as well
as to inform the general public about the exciting mission and fun involved
in what we do.
David Levy will be kicking off the session with a talk on Leslie Peltier,
one of the all-time great visual observers.
David Williams will be discussing binocular observing, Mike Simonsen will be
encouraging deep sky observers to hop over to 'Variables Near (or in) Deep
Sky Objects', and Gene Hanson and Glenn Chaple will be discussing observing
tips, techniques and tools for the beginning observer.
For specific information on the meeting location and facilities see:

There is still room for a few more speakers and topics, so if you have a
topic you would like to see covered in either workshop, or would like to
make a presentation yourself, please contact Mike Simonsen at
mikesimonsen at mindspring.com or HQ at aavso at aavso.org
Thank you,
Mike Simonsen
