It seems the most transient thing about Catalina transients is their identifier.
As in the below quoted run of emails from Taichi, the CSS identifier
reminder suddenly disappears once the object becomes more than of run
of the mill interest, it seems :-
"OT J000938.3-121017 = Catalina transient
Catalina detected (=CSS101007:000938-121017) a potentially interesting
object (dwarf nova with a large amplitude?). Slightly bright on DSS image
and blue."
"OT J000938.3-121017: new SU UMa-type dwarf nova
(=CSS101007:000938-121017)
Kyoto observation (observer: Ohshima-san) last night has detected
a superhump with an amplitude of 0.25 mag."
"Re: OT J000938.3-121017: new SU UMa-type dwarf nova
(=CSS101007:000938-121017)
According to the updated CRTS data, this object underwent another
superoutburst in 2005 October, reaching mag 15.0."
"Re: OT J000938.3-121017: new SU UMa-type dwarf nova
Maehara-san also reported observations. The data now prefer a shorter
period of 0.063 d. The mean amplitude of the superhumps was 0.16 mag."
"OT J000938.3-121017: SU UMa-type dwarf nova around the period gap
Greg Bolt has reported further observations. Using all the data,
we have obtained a period of 0.0895(2) d. This period suggests
that the object is located close to the lower border of the period gap.
Further observations are encouraged!"
I also wonder how much of Paper II there would be, OT wise, if not for CSS?
Waddya mean, it's not a big thing? If it weren't a big thing, he
wouldn't be doing it.
