Dear variable star observers,

Recently, our friend Masayuki Moriyama posted a question about "re-finding of Mira by David Fabricius at Feb. 1609" to our maling-list of VSOLJ.
Fabricius discovered Mira at 13th Aug, 1596. He observed it until Oct, 1596. Then, he found Mira again at Feb. 5th, 1609.
This discovery story can be confirmed by letters to Tycho and Kepler from Fabricius.
I read these letters that translated in English in "Change and Continuity in Early Modern Cosmology" (Patrick J. Boner ed., Springer 2011).

Moriyama's question is:
Brightness of Mira was reported about 2 magnitude near maxima at Aug. 1596.
Period of Mira is 322 days.
Thus, Mira Should be near minimum in Feb. 1969 when Fabricius noticed Mira again.
When Fabricius re-found of mira, how bright Mira was?

Any suggestions?

                                                      Thank you,
                                                      Seiichiro Kiyota
