RE: New BAT SubThreshold Testing Starts Today
DT: 14 Jan 2008

Swift is starting today (14 Jan 08 at 15:05 UT)
with a test of a new mode of operations: the so called SubThreshold mode.
(The details of this mode were discussed at the May 07 Baltimore Swift Meeting
and the Dec 07 Sante Fe Meeting.)

We are only in the testing phase -- there should be no distributions
of SubThreshold-based Notices to the world during this testing phase.
However, I can not guarentee that with 100.0% confidence. This is a very
complicated process (due to requirements levied outside of my control)
and so there may be a mistake/accident letting one or more
of these SubThreshold-based triggers out to the world.
This announcement is to let you know of these testing activities
and that there might be some mistake/accident. If there is, you can
identify them by a BAT Image Significance less than 6.50 sigma.
If one should get through the filtering, then please ignore it.

Sincerely,
Scott
