RE: Fermi will/wont Slew Notices are available
DT: 21-Jun-09

INTRO:
The Fermi spacecraft produces a message when it responds
to a newly detected burst that says if it is slewing
to the new burst or not slewing. (Slewing, aka repointing,
puts the burst position in the middle of the LAT FOV.)
These notices are now available for public distribution.

NOTICE EXPLANATION:
This notice indicates whether or not the spacecraft will slew to the burst.
This notice contains the RA,Dec location to slew to, and a flag indicating
if the spacecraft will actually slew (or not) to this location.
These will be occur about 1-2 times per month.
Obviously, not all GBM (or LAT) detections will be slewed to. The newly
triggered burst must pass some on-board criteria to determine slew worthiness.
And some times Automated-Repointing will be disabled (for critical planned
observations, etc).
More can be found about this notice type, and the other Fermi types, at
http://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/fermi.html .
This new Notice type is availalble via all the distribution methods:
socket packet, the email-based formats (full-format and the various
long, short, subject pager/cell formats), and the VOEvent XML format.
The socket packet format can be found at:
http://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn/sock_pkt_def_doc.html .
