RE: CALET Notice types are available
DT: 11 Mar 2016
INTRODUCTION:
The GCN system has been modified to incorporate the distribution
of lightcurves of GRBs, other unknown and known transients, and non-astrophysically-caused triggers
detected by the GBM instrument on the CALET spacecraft.
The CALET-GBM instrument will trigger about 10 times per month.
There are two type of Notices: CALT_GBM_FLT_LC and CALET_GBM_GND_LC.
They are sent to GCN and automatically distributed to those "sites"
that have the CALET Lightcurve notice types enabled
and that meet their filtering requirements.
These notices contain the trigger date/time and the lightcurve.
No position information is available. However, since the detectors have the
certain field-of-view (~3 sr for HXM and 2 pi sr for SGM), the center position
of that field of view is provided as POINT_RA and POINT_DEC in the notice."
OCCURRANCE RATE:
CALET-GBM will trigger about 10 times per month.
About 50% of the triggers will be astrophysical, the rest are noise.
TIME DELAY:
The CALET automated ground software finds the transients and sends the message to GCN.
The time delays range from 1 to a few minutes for the FLT notice type and
a few hours for the GND notice type.
NOTICE TYPES, CONTENT, and PURPOSE:
There are two notice types:
1) The CALET_GBM_FLT_LC Notice contains countrate lightcurve increases
that exceeds a threshold value (over a time interval).
These increases can be caused by GRBs, other x-ray/hard_x-ray transients, and sometimes noise.
The Notices contain the date, time, and trigger criteria (timescale and energy_band).
This notice type does NOT contain any position information (unlike most of the GCN Notice types).
2) The GBM_GND_LC notice will almost always accompany the GBM_FLT_LC notice.
It is essentially all the same information, but improved with ground analysis processing.
ACTION ITEM:
If, after reviewing the information below, you want to receive
these CALET notices, please send me a request to have them enabled.
You can do this by forwarding this email (which has your sitename identifier)
to sbarthel at milkyway.gsfc.nasa.gov .
Or you can go to http://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn/config_builder.html
and select "#2 Modify an existing config".
You can also take this opportunity to make other changes to your configuration.
ARCHIVE STORAGE:
The GCN/CALET Notices are archived within the GCN website
in the Table of CALET Notices:
http://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn/calet_triggers.html
This single archive page contains both types.
