Was this a single image or a stack of images?  

If it is a stack, it looks like one of the images did not register with the 
others.  As a result of this, all of the bright stars have a "companion" 
offset a short distance to the upper right.  The image of the suspected 
variable star may be that of the bright star to its lower left.  Please 
double-check this.
