Dear colleagues,
I have just concluded the analysis of my 2018, Dec 04/05 unfiltered CCD photometry session of ASASSN-18aan. Observations were made at CBA Belgium Observatory, using a 0.40-m f/10.0 telescope and STT-3200ME CCD camera. The sky initially was clear, but I then had to stop observations due to clouds.
The resulting light curve covers a time span of 2.8 hours and clearly reveals the presence of an eclipse, superimposed over a superhump, hence classyfing this object as a new UGSU+E type dwarf nova. The eclipse depth is 0.45 mag and the duration (ingress-egress) is approx 35 minutes. Due to the limited observing period, I can not accurately determine the superhump period, nor the orbital period, as I only observed one eclipse. The object was at mag 15.6 (CV) on Dec 4th, 2018.
Follow-up observations are urgently required to further determine the characteristics of this interesting variable star.
Observations will be sent to AAVSO, CBA and VSNET for further analysis.
Best regards
Tonny
