Dear colleagues,

I have just concluded the analysis of my 2018, Dec 12/13 V-filtered CCD photometry session of ASASSN-18abj. Observations were made at CBA Belgium Observatory, using a 0.40-m f/10.0 telescope and STT-3200ME CCD camera. The sky was very clear throughout the session.

The resulting light curve covers a time span of 3.6 hours. It clearly shows a pattern of irregular variations with amplitudes ranging between 0.025 and 0.050 mag on time scales of 8 – 22 minutes, possibly superimposed by some longer signals. I used the ANOVA, Lomb-Scargle and PDM period analysis methods (Peranso), but could not identify a prominent period.

The object was at mag 11.03 (V) on Dec 12th, 2018.

Based on the above, one can not (yet) firmly rule out if this is a galactic nova or a CV. Further optical and spectroscopic observations are urgently needed.

Observations will be sent to AAVSO, CBA and VSNET for further analysis.

Best regards
Tonny
