Dear colleagues,
I have just concluded the analysis of my 2019, Jan 18/19 and Jan 19/20 unfiltered CCD photometry sessions of V386 Ser. Observations were made at CBA Belgium Observatory, using a 0.40-m f/10.0 telescope and SBIG STT-3200ME CCD camera, under clear skies.
The resulting light curve of Jan 19/20 clearly shows the presence of double-peaked (early) superhumps with an amplitude of 0.11 mag, hence classifying this object as a new WZ Sge type dwarf nova. A period analysis using the ANOVA, Lomb-Scargle and PDM methods (Peranso), yields a combined superhump period of 0.0612 +/- 0.0010d. The object was at mag 11.2 (V) on Jan 20th. Considering the short time base of my observations, the results are rather well aligned with the orbital period of 0.0582 +/- 0.0020 d, obtained through spectral analysis, and published by A.S. Mukadam et al. in “Multi-site observations of pulsation in the accreting white dwarf SDSS J161033.64–010223.3 (V386 Ser)”, Astrophysical Journal, Vol 714, Nbr 2.
I will send my observations to AAVSO, CBA and VSNET for further analysis.
As the time base for my observations was rather short (early morning object), follow-up observations are highly recommended to study the evolution of the superhump signal.
Best regards
Tonny
