Hi Peter. My last observations of it were a little bit brighter than yours, but fainter than 7.5. Lets keep an eye on it. I don't know what happens with VSNET, i don't receive e-mail since some months.

Hi Marcos,

V854 Cen seems to have got stuck around magnitude 8.0, having shown no obvious variation since falling to that level on 08 May.  It will be interesting to see if it recovers to normal maximum or, based on its 42 day pulsation cycle, continues into a deep fade from early July.  We will just have to keep watching!

Also, I have not seen anything from the VSNET since about 15 May, so they may be having email/communication problems.

Tks and regards

Peter Williams

Hi Peter. I've noticed her fluctuating a lot the last few days. I'll check in a little while and see how it is. Probably another decline is about to begin.

Subject: [VSS] V854 Cen Possible Decline Onset

Good morning,

The bright southern RCB star V854 Cen has shown a gradual fading over the past 2 weeks, suggesting the possible onset of a deep decline may have commenced.  This star was at visual magnitude 8.0 last night (May 18), a half magnitude below its normal maximum brightness.  Typically, if it fades to magnitude 8.5 it will continue onto a deep decline.  Observations over the next few days will confirm if this does indeed occur.  The previous deep decline commenced in July 2022.  Recent visual observations of V854 Cen:
