BR Cir = Circinus X-1: dramatic radio brightening
According to ATEL #563, the relativistic jet source Circinus X-1 (BR Cir)
is undergoing a strong radio outburst.
Position:
152040.8 -571009 (2000.0) LMXB_1516-569 LMXB(TBA) V=21.4 BRCir
152040.8 -571006 (2000.0) 1RXS_J152040.8-571007 61.710 0.99 0.98
152039.6 -571003 (2000.0) CIRBR * XF 7.21 11.38 K - - - e R1/CIR
Although the object is faint (reddened) in the optical, it is sufficiently
bright for infrared observers (cf. 2MASS images would provide an excellent
guide to this field). I have no idea how bright the object is on unfiltered
conventional CCDs, but would be reachable.
ASAS-3 gives occasional detections around mag 14, but are likely noises.
