[vsnet-alert 9084] SS LMi: presumable SU UMa-type dwarf nova

According to cvnet-outburst, presumable superhumps have
been detected in SS LMi during the current outburst.
Positive detections in the 1990's (see earlier messages and
http://www.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/DNe/sslmi.html )
and the discovery light curve seem to suggest an SU UMa-type
dwarf nova with more frequent outbursts than WZ Sge-type stars.

===

Time series photometry this morning (27 Oct) shows 0.2 magnitude superhumps
with an approximate period (based on casual visual inspection of the light
curve) of 0.054d.

Using GSC 2511-0929 (mag. 15.00), the object's unfiltered magnitude was
approx. 16.8.

Note that I also took data on this star on the morning of 26 Oct, but
conditions were scattered clouds. The object was approx 0.2 magnitudes
brighter, but it's difficult to say if superhumps were present in this poor
quality light curve.

Great result, Tom! I found a value of 0.0585 d when I first spotted the
outburst, but it doesn't really count as the run wasn't long enough.

Can I ask other observers to continue to follow this object? Although
it's pretty faint, if it is a UGWZ (it's original classification as
an extragalactic nova is unlikely), re-brightenings or echo outbursts
are possible.
