Dear fellow CV observers,

I am in the midst of taking spectra of SDSS2059-0612, a CV from
the Sloan digital sky survey with no measured orbital period, on the 4.2m
WHT in the Canary Isands (time 24 September 2006, 21:00 UT). It
looks to be in outburst. I am afraid that I can't give a magnitude
(its quiescent magnitude is 18.7) without breaking my observations but
perhaps someone can confirm this. I believe this would be the first
outburst detected for this star, although I could be wrong.

Coordinates: RA 20 59 14.87, Dec -06 12 20.5, J2000.

Spectrum & discovery: Skody et al 2003, Astronomical Journal, 126, 1499

A finding chart can be downloaded using the above coordinates from

http://cas.sdss.org/dr5/en/tools/chart/chart.asp

I attach the default 3.4'x3.4' chart from this page as a colour jpeg; the
target is the blue star at the centre. Please use the above web page if
you want a chart with a larger field,

regards,

Tom Marsh
