[vsnet-alert 9725] poss. nova in IAUC 8898 is a red variable

Dear all,

  A possible nova in Serpens, reported on IAUC 8898, is a VERY bright IR source IRAS 18066-0722.  Its entry in the
2MASS catalog is:

18:09:24.28, -07:22:13.7, J=6.365, H=5.072, Ks=4.238

  It is very likely a red variable star with a large amplitude, not a 
genuine nova.
