The international conference

Interacting binaries: Accretion and Synchronization

Crimean Astrophysical Observatory
Ukraine

June 20 -26, 2008

Second Announcement (April 2, 2008)

The Conference "Interacting binaries: Accretion and Synchronization” to be held
in the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory (Nauchny, Crimea, Ukraine) on June 20-26, 2008.
The main topics of the conference will include both the observational and theoretical
aspects concerning peculiarities of accretion and synchronization processes in binaries.

The main topics of the conference will include both the observational and theoretical
aspects concerning peculiarities of accretion and synchronization processes in binaries:

Accretion in the interacting binaries both close and wide with different secondaries from
early to late spectral type
Low-Mass X-Ray Binaries, Massive X-Ray Binaries
Symbiotic stars
Stream, column and wind-type accretion
Accretion onto gravimagnetic rotators (polars, asynchronous polars, intermediate polars)
Dwarf novae and active postnovae at different states of accretion
Intrinsic variability of components of binary systems
Mathematic modeling of structure and evolution of binary and multiple systems
Period changes
Binary stars and astronomical education

We are glad to notice that many colleagues, working in the field, plan to participate
in our conference.
However, we would like to ask to send registration forms, including information on
arrival/departure, room preferrance and abstracts (plain text), before deadline on
April 30.

CrAO is located at an altitude of 650m in ~60 minutes of trip from the railway station
in Simferopol with a connection to major cities in Ukraine and Russia and ~90 minutes
from the Simferopol airport with flights to Kiev, Moscow, Istanbul and other cities.

Travel information for participants outside Ukraine
The main international airports in Kiev (capital of Ukraine) is Borispil and in Moscow
(capital of Russia) is Sheremetjevo (whereas there other airports, connecting these cities to
Simferopol'). If flying via Moscow and leaving the transit zone, You may need an additional Russian
transit visa. The duration of the train journey Simferopol-Kiev is of 16 hours, moreover,
in summer time, the trains are full, and the places in sleeping cars are booked in advance.
The closest international airport to Simferopol is Odessa, with connections to Kiev, Moscow,
Prague, Varsaw, Budapest, VIenna, Athens, Istanbul. However, to reach Simferopol from Odessa,
one needs to spend a night in a train (no direct flights). Other possibility is to use
"Turkish Airlines" ( http://www.thy.com/en-INT/index.aspx ). If needed to spend a night during a
transit, they allocate a free accomodation in a hotel, so there may be a good possibility to enjoy
excursions in Istanbul. For citizens of many countries, the turkish visa is issued immediately
for 20 USD / 15 Euro.
