We report the discovery of optical transient ROTSE3 J004626+410714 in
unfiltered CCD images taken by the 0.45m ROTSE-IIIb telescope at
McDonald Observatory, Texas.
The object, located at RA: 00:46:25.65 Dec: +41:07:14.2 (J2000,
uncertainty <1 "), was observed at ~15.4 mag on 2008 Jun 5.41 UT,
~16.8 mag on 2008 Jun 12.40 UT, and ~16.9 mag on 2008 Jun 15.38 UT.
When imaged on 2008 Jun 22.37 UT and 2008 Jul 12.31 UT, it was
fainter than a limiting magnitude of ~17.8 and ~18.8 respectively.
The object's field was not imaged by ROTSE from 2008 Feb 27.09 UT to
2008 Jun 5.41 UT, and the object was not detected in any field image
from 2007 Jan 8.78 UT to 2008 Feb 27.09 UT. This transient has a
R~20.45 counterpart in USNO-B1.0 catalog. According to the crude
photometry of the USNO-B catalog, it is bluer than the nearby field
stars and thus is tentatively categorized as a galactic CV. A ROTSE3
finding chart can be found here,
