Following the message by Denisenko, I looked in the Digitized First
Byurakan Survey objective-prism plate archive, to see if the star was
visible. There are three plates covering the object, two in the same
night (1971-06-18) n.486 (IIAF emulsion) and n.487 (Zu-2 emulsion). In
both plates the star is visible, albeit rather faint: in the 486 plate
the magnitudes derived from the spectrum are B=16.2, R=16.6 (in the
USNO-A2 magnitude scale), indicating a blue star as expected for a
cataclismic variable.
The spectra of the plate n.799 (1973-05-06) are not present in the
database, but the star is detected on the plate, at the detection limit.
The historical data from the Palomar Survey plates (USNO-B1) show a
magnitude range of about 1.7 mag.
