[vsnet-alert 9217] Nova confirmations - V1280 Sco

We got blue spectra of V1280 Sco with the SMARTS 1.5m RC spectrograph the past 
2 nights. Postscript and GIF plots of the spectra are attached. 

Details: 6 Feb 0837UT  4050-4700A; resolution=1.4A
            7 Feb 0857UT  3650-5400A; resolution=4A

It looks really young. The continuum is very blue, with strong Balmer line
absorption. Lots of Fe II absorption; some with weak P Cygni profiles.
No strong optical emission lines yet shortward of 5400A.

We'll follow it through February 21.
