Subject: [vsnet-chat 7243] unidentified ob.

There is a bright fuzzy patch that I can't I.D on my charts, at around 5 hr 20 ' -65 14'.
A bit to the south of U Dor - does any one know of a comet or bright galaxy there? I have
NGC 1892 close, but this object seems brighter.

Thanks. Alan Plummer.

Alan,
the problem here is the abundance of LMC clusters and nebulae, plus a few background
galaxies. Admittedly most of the Shapley-Lindsay clusters are rather small and faint, but
NGC/IC objects are sufficiently common to make identification very difficult. We need a
fairly precise position, plus an estimated magnitude. The rough position you give could
refer to a number of different objects, of varying degrees of visibility to visual
observers.
Regards,
Mati
