TCP J16294031-4022063: unusually reddened SU UMa-type dwarf nova?

Josch Hambsch has reported observations. The data showed regular 0.23-mag superhumps with a period of 0.0543(4) d.

This result, however, is strange since this object is apparently reddened like a nova:

If this is a reddened SU UMa-type dwarf nova, the object should be fairly close. The absence of a bright quiescent counterpart would be problematic. Further observations are strongly encouraged.
