[vsnet-alert 10217] Nova Oph 2008: spectrum by Ayani-san

   Ayani-san (Bisei Astronomical Observatory) has reported the
following spectrum of Nova Oph 2008.

   The H-alpha, beta and Fe II emission lines were accompanied by
strong P Cyg-type absorption.  The FWHM of H-alpha was 600 km/s
(suggesting a slow nova?)  The continuum is red and has a strong Na D
absorption line, indicating substantial reddening.  The finding
is compatible with early multicolor photometry.

   The spectrum suggests that the nova has not yet reached
full maximum.
