Hi Gary,

it would definitely be interested in getting to know which outburst is more
important than another.
There are too many to follow all of them.

I am oberving from a Southern Hemisphere location and hence would be
interested in getting to know about preferably southern targets importance.

BTW I am also not subscribed to AAVSO forum items. Personally I like more
e-mail lists like VSNET etc.
as there the mail comes into your box and you do not need to go to a forum
and look for interesting mails.

Regards,
Groeten,
Grüße,

Josch

Yes I realise that you can get an e-mail when a posting appears on the
forum, but I wonder just how many active observers do this (I don't, and I
know of plenty others who don't either). One would guess that the CV people
who are likely to observe a rare'ish outburst in depth (CCD t/s etc.)
subscribe to CVnet & VSnet - both of which were set up for this purpose and
have proved their value over the years in spreading news of outbursts to the
CV community - both pro & amateur. An outburst of SW UMa (or any other
unusual outburst) would be better served being announced where the most
people can act upon it. It makes absolutely no sense to me to introduce
another method of reporting outbursts to what is probably a smaller
selection of observers. In fact I would go as far to say that the AAVSO
should discourage this type of reporting of outbursts and recommend to those
who observe CV's to announce outbursts to CVnet and/or VSnet. As you can
probably tell this has irritated me a little, and I await the fire and
brimstone following these comments :-)

I also wonder if some observers need educating somewhat in respect to the
importance of some outbursts over others, but that is another story for
another day.

Clear skies,
Gary
