We obtained a medium-resolution spectrum of ASASSN-22an with the 4.1m SOAR telescope and Goodman spectrograph on 2022-01-11 08:31 UT. The spectrum covering 3900-7900 A shows a continuum with superimposed broad Balmer absorption lines. The Halpha shows a narrow emission component on top of the broad absorption. The spectrum is that of a dwarf nova in outburst, not consistent with a classical nova.
We also used the SOAR acquisition images to measure the astrometric position of ASASSN-22an relative to the few UCAC3 stars in the field: 15:24:49.52 -57:39:52.8 +/-0.1" J2000
There is no Gaia EDR3 source at this position, but USNO-B1.0 0323-0738701 (R1mag=19.8, Imag=18.4) is located only 0.2" away. A faint (median DECaPS DR1 magnitudes g=23.1, r=22.8) source is visible in DECaPS images 0.3" from the SOAR position.
