SUBJECT: GRB 240805B: BTA optical afterglow candidate
DATE: 24/08/06 00:45:23 GMT
FROM: Moskvitin Alexander at SAO RAS <mosk(a)sao.ru>
A. Moskvitin, D. Oparin, A Vinokurov (SAO RAS), N. Pankov (HSE, IKI)
and A. Pozanenko (IKI) report:
We observed the field of the GRB 240805B (Williams et al., GCN 37043)
with the BTA 6-meter telescope of SAO RAS equipped with the focal
reducer Scorpio-I. We obtained 7 x 120 + 30 sec images on August 5,
2024-08-05T19:31:44 -- 2024-08-05T20:10:44 (t_mid - T0 = 8.372 hours).
Within the enhanced XRT error circle (Goad et al., GCN 37053) close
to its edge we detected a single source with the coordinates (J2000):
R. A. = 16:56:51.20
Dec. = +18:19:11.7 +/- 0".5
and brightness of R = 21.62 +/- 0.04 (calibrated against nearby SDSS
stars, magnitudes converted with Lupton 2005 equations)
and not corrected for Galactic extinction.
This source is located near SDSS object J165651.21+181914.0
but significantly brighter, thus it may be GRB OT.

report on behalf of the SVOM team:
During the commissioning phase, the SVOM/GRM was triggered by a long GRB 240805A at 2024-08-05T02:02:21.400 UT (T0), which also triggered Fermi/GBM (GCN 37031), Swift/BAT (GCN 37032), INTEGRAL (GCN 37037), and Fermi/LAT (GCN 37042).
With the event-by-event data downloaded through the X-band ground station, the GRM light curve shows that this burst consists of multiple pulses with a duration of about 12 s.
The GRM light curve can be found here:
https://www.bursthub.cn/admin/static/svgrb240805A.png
At the time of this burst ECLAIRs was not in operational mode.
The Space Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM) is a China-France joint mission led by the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA, China), National Center for Space Studies (CNES, France) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS, China), which is dedicated to observing gamma-ray bursts and other transient phenomena in the energetic universe. GRM is developed by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of CAS.
The SVOM point of contact for this burst is: Chen-Wei Wang (IHEP)(cwwang(a)ihep.ac.cn)

SUBJECT: GRB 240805B: Enhanced Swift-XRT position
DATE: 24/08/05 23:15:38 GMT
FROM: Phil Evans at U of Leicester <pae9(a)star.le.ac.uk>
M.R. Goad, J.P. Osborne, A.P. Beardmore and P.A. Evans (U. Leicester)
report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team.
Using 1007 s of XRT Photon Counting mode data and 3 UVOT
images for GRB 240805B, we find an astrometrically corrected X-ray
position (using the XRT-UVOT alignment and matching UVOT field sources
to the USNO-B1 catalogue): RA, Dec = 254.21255, +18.31958 which is equivalent
to:
RA (J2000): 16h 56m 51.01s
Dec (J2000): +18d 19' 10.5"
with an uncertainty of 3.1 arcsec (radius, 90% confidence).
This position may be improved as more data are received. The latest
position can be viewed at http://www.swift.ac.uk/xrt_positions. Position
enhancement is described by Goad et al. (2007, A&A, 476, 1401) and Evans
et al. (2009, MNRAS, 397, 1177).
This circular was automatically generated, and is an official product of the
Swift-XRT team.

SUBJECT: GRB 240805B: LCOGT Optical Upper Limits
DATE: 24/08/05 19:37:57 GMT
FROM: Robert Strausbaugh at Eastern Illinois University <rstrausbaugh(a)eiu.edu>
R. Strausbaugh (Eastern Illinois University), A. Cucchiara (NASA) report on behalf of a larger collaboration:
We observed the Swift GRB 240805B field (Williams et al., GCN 37043) with the LCOGT 1-meter Sinistro instrument at the South African Astronomical Observatory site, on August 5, from 18:01 to 18:34 UT (corresponding to 3.55 to 4.10 hours after the GRB trigger time) with the sdss r and i filters.
We performed a series of 3x300s exposures in each band. We do not detect an uncataloged source within the XRT error region in either band. This result is consistent with other optcal upper limits (Zhu et al., GCN 37050; Lipunov et al., GCN 37051).
The following 5-sigma upper limits are calculated using the PanSTARRS catalog as reference:
r > 21.1
i > 20.5
These magnitudes are not corrected for galactic extinction.

A series of exposures were obtained in the Sloan g-, r-, i-, and z- filters.
No uncataloged source is found within or around the XRT error circle (Williams et al., GCN 37043). The obtained upper limits are as follows:
Telescope Tmid-T0/hr Filter Exptime Mag(AB)
100C 0.582 r 5x200s >22.0
