Dear all VSNET participants,
As you noticed, the VSNET stopped delivering e-mails on Oct. 20.
This is because the Kyoto University Intergrated Network System
(KUINS) detected that the VSNET server had tried to send too many
e-mails in a short time and KUINS decided to disconnect the VSNET
server from the internet. KUINS then requested that the VSNET
administrators take action to ensure that it does not happen again
and report it back to KUINS. The cause of the mass e-mailing by
the VSNET server was one major provider's refusal to receive e-mail
due to a large volume of incoming e-mail. We, the VSNET administrators
then did some changed on the settings of the VSNET server and
unsubscribed some e-mails of hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com,
gmail.com, icloud.com, yahoo.com, and mac.com from vsnet-mira* and
vsnet-recent*. After reporting these actions to KUINS, the VSNET
server was again connected to the internet on Oct. 31.
We hope you will continue to use VSNET as before, since the problem
was only the internet connection of the VSNET server, and there was
no problem on the server itself. As Kato-san mentioned other
vsnet-alert e-mails, all the VSNET sub-lists are available at
http://ooruri.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp .
When you find a sub-list that looks interesting, please click the
list name and see the link "more information about this list" and
follow the instruction for controlling the subscription. Note that,
when you subscribe to vsnet-mira and vsnet-recent, you should use
an e-mail address that can receive over 2,000 e-mails per day.
We will send a notice to the addresses unsubscribed later.
With best regards,
Daisaku Nogami
on behalf of the VSNET administrators
