According to GAIA data, this object underwent high states before 2018 several times. https://gsaweb.ast.cam.ac.uk/alerts/alert/Gaia16aoy/
Could rather be an active VY Scl star, like KR Aur dominated by low states. DDE 35 is currently still brightening.
