TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 45282 SUBJECT: IceCube-Cascade 260801A: Upper limits from a search for additional neutrino events in IceCube DATE: 26/08/04 05:10:36 GMT FROM: Sam Hori at IceCube/U Wisc-Madison <sahori(a)wisc.edu> The IceCube Collaboration (http://icecube.wisc.edu/) reports: IceCube has performed a search [1] for additional track-like muon neutrino events arriving from the direction of IceCube-Cascade 260801A (https://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/notices_amon_icecube_cascade/142940_41461633.amon) in a time range of 1000 seconds centered on the alert event time (2026-08-01 17:21:57.369 UTC to 2026-08-01 17:38:37.369 UTC) during which IceCube was collecting good quality data. Excluding the event that prompted the alert, zero track-like events are found within the 90% containment region of IceCube-Cascade 260801A. We report a p-value of 1.00 in this time window. IceCube’s sensitivity to neutrino point sources with an E^-2.5 spectrum, expressed as E^2 dN/dE evaluated at 1 TeV, ranges from 1.3e-01 to 1.4e-01 GeV cm^-2 within the 90% spatial containment region of IceCube-Cascade 260801A in a 1000 second time window. 90% of events IceCube would detect from a source at this declination with an E^-2.5 spectrum have energies in the approximate energy range between 2e+02 GeV and 1e+05 GeV. A subsequent search was performed including 2 days of data centered on the alert event time (2026-07-31 17:30:17.369 UTC to 2026-08-02 17:30:17.369 UTC). In this case, we report a p-value of 0.75, consistent with no significant excess of track events. IceCube’s sensitivity to neutrino point sources with an E^-2.5 spectrum, expressed as E^2 dN/dE evaluated at 1 TeV, ranges from 1.5e-01 to 1.7e-01 GeV cm^-2 within the 90% spatial containment region of IceCube-Cascade 260801A in a 2 day time window. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is a cubic-kilometer neutrino detector operating at the geographic South Pole, Antarctica. The on-ground calculated location, using the Fermi GBM trigger data, is RA = 93.8, Dec = 18.0 (J2000 degrees, equivalent to J2000 06h 15m, 18d 00'), with a statistical uncertainty of 3.6 degrees. The angle from the Fermi LAT boresight is 74.0 degrees. Shi (GXU), C. Wu, L.P. Xin (NAOC), A. Saccardi, D. Turpin (CEA/Irfu), Y.X. Guan, S.J. Yin (GXU) report on behalf of the SVOM mission team: We have continued monitoring the optical counterpart (Shilova et al., GCN 45123; Freeberg et al., GCN 45127; Sheng et al., GCN 45147) of the Fermi long GRB 260708A (Fermi/GBM Team, GCN 45115; Fermi-LAT, Holzmann Airasca et al., GCN 45117), using SINISTRO instruments mounted on 1-m telescopes of the LCO global network. We observed the optical counterpart in imaging using the g, r, i bands from 2026-07-11 (3.56 days after the trigger) to 2026-08-02 (25.03 days after the trigger). The optical counterpart shows a color change toward blue. It was measured to have a brightness of g=19.56+/-0.02 mag at 3.56 days post-trigger and g=18.88+/-0.02 mag at 11.48 days respectively, which show a rebrightening of the counterpart with a rise time of ~11.5 days post-trigger. Photometry was calibrated against the UCAC4 catalog, without template subtraction and not corrected for Galactic extinction. We suggest that it is likely the supernova associated with the burst. Multi-band photometric and spectroscopic observations are encouraged. This project is funded by the SVOM collaboration. Liu (NAO, CAS) on behalf of the Einstein Probe (EP) team: EP-FXT performed a follow-up observation of GRB 260802A detected by SVOM/ECLAIRs (Feng et al., GCN 45270). The observation started at 2026-08-02 13:02:30 (UTC), about 3.65 hr after the SVOM trigger, with a total exposure time of around 3 ks. On-ground analysis of the FXT data found a catalogued source within the ECLAIRs error circle at R.A., Dec. = 339.4966, 53.2393 deg (J2000) with an uncertainty of about 10 arcsec (radius, 90% C.L. statistical and systematic). The position is consistent with EP260628c / EP J223759.5+531421 (Yang et al., ATel 17859; Coti Zelati et al. ATel 17909, Postigo et al., GCN 45272; Shi et al., GCN 45274; Wu et al., GCN 45275). The derived average unabsorbed flux is 3.65 (-0.10/+0.11) x 10^(-11) erg/s/cm^2 (0.5-10 keV; 1-sigma uncertainty). Launched on January 9, 2024, EP is a space X-ray observatory to monitor the soft X-ray sky with X-ray follow-up capability (Yuan et al. 2022, Handbook of X-ray and Gamma-ray Astrophysics). TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 45270 SUBJECT: GRB 260802A/EP J223759.5+531421: SVOM detection of a possible magnetar burst DATE: 26/08/02 10:09:19 GMT FROM: SVOM_group <svomgroup(a)bao.ac.cn> Xin Feng (GXU), Hatsune Goto (RIKEN, CEA), Donghua Zhao (NAOC), Weinjin Xie (NAOC), Runchao CHEN (NJU), Feliu Lacreu (IAP), Diego Götz (CEA), report on behalf of the SVOM mission team: At 2026-08-02T09:23:10 UTC (T0), SVOM/ECLAIRs triggered and located the gamma-ray burst GRB 260802A (SVOM burst-id sb26080210). The following trigger information was received on the ground with low latency by the SVOM VHF Alert Network. The burst was only detected by the Count-Rate Trigger (CRT), which produced a sequence of 3 alerts. CRT provided the alert with the best signal-to-noise-ratio in the image (SNR) of 8.09 in the [5-20] keV energy band starting at 2026-08-02T09:23:10. The localization of the best alert is R.A., Dec. 339.4431, 53.2195 degrees (J2000) with a 90% confidence level (C.L.) radius of 9.72 arcmin (including systematic error of 2 arcmin added in quadrature). The SVOM/ECLAIRs showed a single peak structure lasting about 0.2 seconds. We note that the magnetar EP J223759.5+531421(Atel #17859) is located in ECLAIRs error box, and given the short and soft nature of the burst, we suggest it is associated with this newly discovered magnetar. SVOM slewed to the burst. SVOM/MXT began observing the field at 2026-08-02T09:25:42 UTC, 151 seconds after T0. Using onboard processed data we found a possible uncatalogued X-ray source with a low SNR, located at R.A., Dec. 339.439, 53.234 degrees: R.A. (J2000) = 22h37m45s Dec. (J2000) = 53d14m02s with a 90% C.L. radius of 161 arcseconds. This location is 0.89 arcminutes from the ECLAIRs onboard position. This position may be improved as more data is received. VT began observing the field after the slew. The analysis of the data will be published in a future circular. After the trigger by SVOM/ECLAIRs at 2026-08-02T09:23:10 UTC (T0), SVOM performed an automatic slew on the burst location (Feng et al., GCN 45270). SVOM/VT took images of the field in the VT_B (400nm-650nm) and VT_R (650nm-1000nm) channels simultaneously. From a preliminary analysis of the 1-bit subimage and source list downloaded via the VHF network, no uncatalogued optical source was detected within the MXT localization region (Feng et al., GCN 45270) in our three sequence images, compared to the Legacy Survey DR10. The suggested position of the magnetar EP J223759.5+531421 (Rea et al. ATel 17870; Coti Zelati et al. ATel 17909) falls within the subimage coverage. No optical counterpart was detected at this position. Saccardi, D. Turpin (CEA/Irfu), R.C. Chen, W.J. Xie (BA-F), report on behalf of the SVOM mission team: We observed the field of GRB 260802A (SVOM burst-id sb26080210) detected by SVOM (Feng et al., GCN 45270) with the LCO 1m telescope at McDonald Observatory equipped with the Sinistro instrument. Our observation started on 2026-08-02 at 10:21:46 UT (about 58.6 min after the trigger) and we obtained 3x200 s exposures in the SDSS r filter. In the stacked image, we do not detect any new source within the SVOM/ECLAIRs error box. We measure the following upper limit calibrated against the Pan-STARRS DR1 catalog, and not corrected for Galactic extinction: r > 20.96 AB (5-sigma, mid-time 1.07 hr after the trigger).
